Zante is located in the southern part of the Ionian Sea and it
was named after the son of Dardanos, a king of Troy, who built
the city, according to the myth. It covers an area of 410 square
kilometers and its population is 35000 people. The total length
of the beaches is 123 kilometers and Zante is the third in size
of the Ionian Islands.
The climate of Zante is typically Mediterranean with abundant
rainfalls during the winter and long sunny periods in the summer.
Thus, the landscape is evergreen especially in the south east
area, where one can find fertile plains, sandy beaches and impressive
gulfs. The west part of Zante is mountainous. The landscape has
a wild beauty and results to rough rocks along the shores. The
capital city has the same name with the island: Zante.
